• Vintage Map Light

Thanksgiving was just around the corner and OOPS- we had no dining room light! My boyfriend, Ben and I stared up at the dirty old track lighting and decided it just wasn't going to cut it. We had family flying in for a fancy feast and had almost finished the house in time. The light was lacking and we needed something quick, cool and vintage. We tend to like items that are more industrial (basically anything our Shar Pei/Shepherd mix and Boston Terrier can't ruin) and we wanted something funky that we haven't seen before.

Lucky for us my mom happens to be Ki Nassauer, vintage extraordinaire, and she told us about Light Reading, an awesome mother and daughter team (we like that!) that specializes in super fun and unique, handmade lamp shades. Ben and I love traveling so we went with a map themed shade that included vintage maps from around the world. It looked handsome hanging over our wire spool dining room table and highlighted the mashed potatoes perfectly. The fam was definitely impressed. I even used my poor handy-girl skills to attach a diffuser. It was easy peasy and not too pricey.

To DIY we suggest purchasing a light kit and diffuser from Shades of Light and ordering a shade from Light Reading. Good luck and have fun!

Wow! I love that! My dining room could also use a little help in the cool department…this just may work!
